Athlone band Kerbside releases debut album
by Eddie Keenan, Westmeath Independant
Adopted Athlonians Kerbside have just released their debut album 'Anything Strange', a sparkling collection of songs showcasing the band's huge songwriting and musical talents.
Although hailing from San Francisco, Sean and Kim Lightholder of Kerbside have been living in Athlone for the past three years where they have built up a strong fanbase thanks to regular gigs throughout the town.
For the album, Sean and Kim were joined by a host of local musicians who added their talents to what is an excellent debut, mixing the plaintive ballads of 'Talk' and 'Mahal Ko' with the up tempo Americana of 'College Town' and 'Indian Dance.'
Standout songs such as 'The Ex-Patriots', 'Departure' and 'How Far' feature excellently crafted melodies with Sean and Kim's experience in performing together evident in how well their harmonies mix throughout.
The band are now planning to promote the album across the country with a mini-tour but, first of all, the album is set to be launched in Athlone this Friday, August 26th at the Shack. With local songwriter Fergal Cox and other local acts performing on the occaision, this promises to be a great night of music.
